The Scottish Parliament ProjectThe Scottish Parliament Project is a fascinating effort by St. Andrew's University to create a new digital edition of the acts of the pre 1707 Scottish Parliament. Scotland and England united in 1707 through the Act of Union to together form the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The Parliament was resurrected in 1999 as a junior legislature with devolved responsibilities and those returned in the recent Scottish Parliament Elections will move into the new Scottish Parliament Building in Edinburgh sometime next year. This project has been going since 1997 and the site includes some text of Acts of the Scottish Parliament dating from 1318, during the reign of Robert the Bruce. This new edition will surpass that of Thomas Thomson and Cosmo Innes (19th century) with the inclusion of new material, new acts and new more thorough editing. The entire text, whether in Latin, Scots or French, will be translated into modern English, enabling computer searches on an infinite number of subjects. All the sources which make up the proceedings of the Scottish Parliament will be properly cited, and a full scholarly editorial apparatus will be included, enabling a full understanding of the varied records which make up Scotland's parliamentary acts for the first time."
